Plug in an adapter
Any ELM327-compatible Bluetooth LE OBD-II adapter goes into the port under the dashboard. It stays there.

Pair it once
Turn the ignition on, open Carbiter and pick the adapter. The app recognises the car and learns what it can read.

From now on every drive records itself in the background. Open the app when you are curious — the numbers are waiting.
Which adapter? Look for “BLE” or “Bluetooth 4.0” on the box — for example Vgate iCar Pro BLE, OBDLink CX, OBDLink MX+ or Veepeak BLE. “Classic” Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters won't appear on iPhone. Most petrol cars from 2001 and diesels from 2004 (EU) or 1996 (US) speak OBD-II.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
What do I need to use Carbiter?
An iPhone on iOS 18 or later, a car with an OBD-II port, and an ELM327-compatible Bluetooth LE adapter. There is also a demo mode if you want to look around before buying an adapter.
Will my Wi-Fi or “Bluetooth 3.0” adapter work?
No. Carbiter talks to Bluetooth LE adapters. Classic Bluetooth adapters do not appear on iPhone at all, and Wi-Fi adapters use a different radio. Neither is a fault in the adapter — it is which radio the app uses.
Can I use one adapter for several cars?
Yes. Move the adapter to another car and Carbiter recognises it by its VIN, or by the set of sensors it answers if the car does not report a VIN. Each car keeps its own drives and history. Lite keeps one active car with an archive; Pro keeps several active.
Does it drain my phone's battery?
Carbiter wakes up when the adapter appears and deliberately reads a small set of values at a sensible rate rather than everything at full speed. Most adapters power down with the car.
Can Carbiter clear fault codes or change settings in my car?
No — on purpose. Carbiter is read-only. It never writes to the vehicle, never enters programming modes and never clears codes, so it cannot make anything worse.
How accurate are the fuel figures?
Before calibration they are labelled as estimates, with their uncertainty shown. Log your fill-ups and Carbiter calibrates to your car, so the figures become measurements. Every number tells you which it is.
Which languages does it speak?
English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Russian — including fault-code descriptions.
